Max: Thanks. I stated that wrong. I did indeed "lower" the float level. I have also checked the adjustment of the compression release and have adjusted the valves. Nothing realy wrong there. When I got the bike, the carb was hopelessly varnished up. Gas would not flow through it. I have cleaned it with a good imersion carb cleaner twice now. All the passages are clear.
I would love to get some of the mileage that you are getting (60 to 70 mpg). As you well know, the bike doesn't have much fuel capacity. I am reluctant to take off for very far while having no more range than I have. And if I were riding with someone, they would get mighty tired of me stopping for fuel all the time.
The bike is pleasant to ride. It doesn't have that "Oh my God" kind of acceleration or top end, but I don't need that anymore. Been there, done that.
I haven't dug into the bike again yet. Winter weather is upon us here in the Pacific Northwest so I have some time now to ponder the situation and digest the info I am getting from you guys. Thanks for the help. Oh by the way, anybody know where I can get the battery cover/tool box for the right hand side. That, with a lot of other little things, was missing when I "rescued" the bike. I can buy it new, but I am a bit cheap. Thanks again.
